About Tippet Rise
Tippet Rise Art Center is located in Fishtail, Montana, against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, roughly midway between Billings and Bozeman and north of Yellowstone National Park. Set on a 12,500-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, Tippet Rise celebrates the union of music, art, architecture, and landscape. Open seasonally from June 19 through October 4 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the art center exhibits large-scale, outdoor sculptures by some of the world’s foremost artists and architects, accessible via 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, or by the art center’s Sculpture Van Tours. Tippet Rise also presents an annual summer concert season—indoors and out—featuring internally acclaimed musicians.
Open Position: Guest Services & Safety Team Member
Guest Services & Safety Team (GSST) members are primarily responsible for controlling and monitoring access to the Tippet Rise Art Center by promoting safety and security for all employees, guests and other visitors, with fidelity to the Core Values. The main duty station for the GSST member is the Front Gate of Tippet Rise Art Center. GSST members will check in guests, monitor security systems & cameras and assist other departments as assigned. GSST members will not be armed. Most importantly, the GSST member will be a team player and will be willing to collaborate, pitch in, and adapt with Tippet Rise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Guest Services
GSST members are oftentimes the first people guests interact with at Tippet Rise Art Center, setting the tone for their visit. At the Front Gate, GSST members are responsible for:
• Checking in guests upon arrival, utilizing a computer and/or tablet following the electronic check-in procedure
• Maintaining an efficient flow of traffic entering Tippet Rise by being clear and succinct in all instructions and communications
• Being welcoming and helpful stewards of the art center, creating a positive first impression of Tippet Rise
• Interacting with guests, initiating contact using diplomacy, tact and self-control
• Maintaining a positive relationship with our neighbors and community
Safety
• Control access to Tippet Rise Art Center properties
• Monitor and observe all persons at Tippet Rise Art Center for safe, appropriate behavior
• Report and document any threat or risk to Tippet Rise Art Center, its guests, performers, employees and/or properties, including activities, incidents and abnormal situations that may result in unsafe, adverse, illegal or undesirable outcomes
• Maintain proficiency in all Tippet Rise security system, camera and alarm procedures
• Ensure all pertinent information is shared and recorded for other GSST members, by completing and submitting daily logs and notes
Emergency Prevention & Response
• Serve as an initial contact for responding emergency personnel and facilitate expedient access for emergency responders/vehicles
• Maintain knowledge of Emergency Operations protocols and procedures
• Respond to and assist in any security, medical or other emergency situation, as needed
• Intervene in any situation presenting immediate risk to persons or property, negatively impact guest experience, artist performance, employee job execution, or overall safety
• Monitor security systems & cameras, respond to all alarms, calls and incidents according to procedure.
• Summon appropriate assistance from Tippet Rise Art Center employees, special security, and/or local emergency response agencies to control any unsafe or undesirable situation
Other Duties
• Enhance guest experience by assisting in light janitorial tasks as needed
• Occasionally operate Tippet Rise vehicles (SUV or van) to assist in guest transport to local airports
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information regarding Tippet Rise Art Center, its facilities, operational procedures, employees and guests
• Innovate and implement new procedures and duties as needed
• Follow proper procedures and perform all duties as assigned, and while unsupervised
• Assist with ranch operations, as needed
• Participate in all team meetings and trainings
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Isolated, indoor and outdoor work environments, with exposure to extreme weather
• Remain outdoors in variable weather conditions including hot, cold, sunny, wet, windy, snowy, stormy, etc.
• Driving in inclement weather with hazardous road conditions
• Driving a vehicle such as an SUV, Jeep, golf cart, side-by-side ATV, etc.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to walk up to ½ mile. 3-5 times per day on uneven terrain
• Requires bending, stooping, and lifting heavy objects
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Current driver’s license and right to work documents required
• Proficient in the use of electronics, including computers, smartphones, and iPads.
• Legally and safely operate motor vehicles
• Possess all-season reliable transportation
• Work well in a collaborative team environment
• Be physically and mentally agile, able to maintain a professional demeanor under stress
• Successfully pass drug screening and background check

Terms: Part-Time Seasonal
Dates: June 10th – October 4th, working Sunday-Thursday, varied hours to include evenings.
Hourly Wage: The salary for this position is $20.00 per hour. The salary represents Tippet Rise Art Center’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Open Position: Interpretive Ranger
The primary responsibility of the Interpretive Ranger is to create a positive, informative, and engaging experience for visitors to Tippet Rise by helping them with trail route selection, answering questions, promoting safety, and imparting knowledge about the sculptures and environment. In addition, the Interpretive Ranger will monitor the weather, wildlife, trail conditions, and other environmental factors; keep guests and co-workers informed of changing conditions; and take action where needed. The Interpretive Ranger will be outdoors for the entire workday and will physically monitor the trails regularly, making themselves visible and available to guests. Interpretive Rangers must have excellent guest service skills and enthusiasm for Tippet Rise, its vision, and art.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Create a positive experience for tour participants, hikers, and bikers by being helpful, kind, and informative; promote a safe and immersive guest experience.
• Learn and impart knowledge about the art center and its history, the art installations and artists, the surrounding environment and local history, and art center operations. (Information sessions and materials are provided.)
• Assist guests in planning their routes based on their goals and abilities, as well as other needs. Track and communicate the intended routes to other ranger staff.
• Promote guest safety by actively communicating hazards to guests and staff, including weather and environmental risks; enforcing art center policies; and keeping track of guests and their intended routes.
• Drive 11-person van used to assist and transport hikers to and from trails, as needed.
• Responsible for understanding and implementing the Tippet Rise Emergency Action Plans, as needed, and assisting with emergency response to your level of certification.
• Perform trail maintenance daily including trail checks, grading, raking, weed whacking, and erosion control.
• Assist in the maintenance of infrastructure including installing or cleaning of signs, stocking restrooms, and monitoring condition of sculptures.
• Assist, as needed scheduling allows, with various events at Tippet Rise during or outside of normal hours of operation, including concerts, special tours, photography/filming, theater or poetry programs, and/or transportation for musicians/special guests to and from the art center and regional airports using a Tippet Rise vehicle.
• Effectively communicate with a two-way radio.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• One year of experience as an Interpretive Ranger, outdoor educator, professional guide, or significant personal experience with outdoor work or recreation
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to speak to and engage with the public
• Enthusiasm for Tippet Rise and its mission
• Ability to physically monitor the trails on challenging terrain by foot, mountain bike
• Emergency training preferred such as EMT, Wilderness First Responder, Outdoor Emergency Care, CPR, First Aid Training
• Clean driving record
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions for entire workday.
• Traverse up to 3 miles at a time, multiple times a day over rough terrain, without a vehicle.
• Ability to operate all-terrain vehicle on rough roads.
• Ability to frequently walk and work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
• Will require standing, lifting, stooping, or bending.
• Ability to perform physical labor such as shoveling and raking dirt, lifting and moving rocks, chopping earth and vegetation
