This concert features six extraordinary artists, each celebrated for their virtuosity, and sought after for their performances around the world. Returning musicians include cellist Sterling Elliott, recipient of the Sphinx Organization’s 2024 Medal of Excellence and a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and American violinist Jennifer Frautschi, a two-time Grammy nominee and Avery Fisher career grant recipient. Debuting artists include Hungarian-Nicaraguan-American violinist Abigél Králik; American violist Natalie Loughran, the First Prize winner at the 2021 Primrose International Viola Competition; Armenian-American violist Cara Pogossian, a current Masters student at the New England Conservatory; and American pianist Evren Ozel, the recipient of the 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant.
The performance will feature three works spanning three centuries, including a selection from Bela Bartok’s violin duos from 1931, which were inspired by Central European folk music and Brahms’ magisterial piano quartet from 1875 – also known as the Werther Quartet. In between, Jennifer Frautschi and Evren Ozel will perform the world premiere of Valentyn Silvestrov’s Twelve Waltzes of the Moment and One Serenade for Violin and Piano, the eighth of ten works commissioned by Tippet Rise in 2022 from Silvestrov, Ukraine’s leading living composer.
