Week three of the Tippet Rise concert season features seven extraordinary artists, each celebrated for their virtuosity, and sought after for their performances around the world. Returning musicians include cellist Sterling Elliott, recipient of the Sphinx Organization’s 2024 Medal of Excellence and a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient; American violinist Jennifer Frautschi, a two-time Grammy nominee and Avery Fisher career grant recipient; and cellist Nina Lee, a longtime member of the Brentano String Quartet. Debuting artists include Hungarian-Nicaraguan-American violinist Abigél Králik; American violist Natalie Loughran, the First Prize winner at the 2021 Primrose International Viola Competition; Armenian-American violist Cara Pogossian, a current Masters student at the New England Conservatory; and American pianist Evren Ozel, the recipient of the 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant.
The program begins with a solo piano work by the 19th century Polish-French reluctant virtuoso Frederic Chopin, continues with a work for cello and piano by George Walker – the first African-American composer to win the Pulitzer Prize, and concludes with Czech composer Dvorak’s exuberant tribute to music by Native-American and African-American music, heard in Spillville, Iowa, where he spent the summer of 1893.
