Description

Dr. Ilse-Mari Lee will perform all six preludes of J. S. Bach’s unaccompanied Cello Suites, BWV 1007-1012. She will also play a composition of her own, written for the occasion of Stephen Talasnik’s exhibition at Tippet Rise: “Unearthed” for Solo Cello and Digital Sound. Born in South Africa, Dr. Lee studied cello from a young age and served as principal cellist of the South African Youth Orchestra and the South African Broadcasting Corporation Junior Orchestra. She went on to complete two Master's degrees in Cello Performance and in Composition at Northern Illinois University and a Doctorate in Cello Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Arizona. Today, Dr. Lee serves as the Dean of the Honors College at Montana State University in Bozeman, yet she remains active as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician, performing regularly at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Montana Chamber Music Festival. The evening’s program includes a discussion with Dr. Lee and Stephen Talasnik.
